FIELD TRIPS, EXPEDITIONS
Perth, Art Gallery of Western Australia - research museum trip
Continuing our art gallery visits, this time with the Art Gallery of Western Australia in Perth, where beautiful and old bark paintings were on display encompassing artists such as Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri, Dawidi Djulwarak, Malawan Marika, Mick Magani, Kaapa Tjampitjinpa, Johnny Warangkula Tjupurrula, Charlie Tararu Tjungarrayi, Mick Namarari Tjapaltjarri, Paddy Japaljarri Sims, Freddy Tjakamarra andAlec Mingelmanganu.
The displayed paintings predominantly came from Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory, which represents one of the richest art-producing regions of Australia. In general, paintings of the west are more figurative, whilst towards the east part of the region, geometric designs become more prominent. Some of the paintings captured everyday life activities, and others contained vivid and colourful cultural maps with the intention of passing on important knowledge and stories (mostly to the Aboriginal youth from the respective communities).
